ABOUT US

The Medical Students’ Buddhist Association (MSBA) of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo is a student-led organization dedicated to nurturing Buddhist values, spiritual development, and compassionate service among medical students. Inspired by the Buddha’s teaching, “Yo gilānaṃ upaṭṭheyya so maṃ upaṭṭheyya” — “He who cares for the sick, cares for Me (the Enlightened One)” — the Association seeks to cultivate future healthcare professionals who serve society with wisdom, compassion, and integrity.

OBJECTIVES

Promote the teachings of the Buddha and Buddhist culture among students and staff of the Faculty of Medicine.
Encourage a Buddhist way of life founded on ethical conduct, mindfulness, and spiritual wellbeing.
Foster fellowship, cooperation, and mutual support among members.
Cultivate the Four Sublime Virtues (Brahmavihāras) - Mettā (Loving-kindness), Karunā (Compassion), Muditā (Sympathetic Joy), and Upekkhā (Equanimity).
Promote interfaith understanding, social harmony, and peaceful coexistence.
Work collaboratively with other student societies in the spirit of the Buddhist Middle Way.
Contribute to the physical, mental, social, and spiritual wellbeing of patients and communities through charitable, educational, and service-oriented initiatives.
